Welcome to the "York" Wednesday Wheelers.
Our regular Wednesday rides normally set out from York's Exhibition Square at 09.30 prompt. At our last AGM it was decided to make two separate rides, thus reducing the numbers to a more manageable size as few venues could cope with 40 cyclists. (some rides are combined, see runs list). Runs generally consist of three legs (of between 60 and 90 minutes each) interspersed with organised stops for elevenses and lunch, though during the longer days of summer there is sometimes an extra afternoon stop. Participation in the complete ride is entirely optional! The choice of distances can be adjusted to suit your fitness level (our average speed is around 12 mph). Our riders are free to make their own way to the designated elevenses or lunch stops to meet up with the rest of the group and to depart at any point to make their own way home, thereby tailoring the distance, ride time and exposure to the elements as desired. Our leaders and riders protocol is intended to ensure that every ride is enjoyable and safe for all. After looking at our runs list, you may still think the distances are too great, don't worry! You'll be amazed how quickly your fitness improves with regular participation, as long as you don't try to do too much too soon. Consider contacting the run's leader.
